A Quick Guide to the Italian Climate

July 16th, 2008 by urbanclothingforwomen9872

Many people have no idea what to expect when they go to Italy in terms of the climate and general temperatures at various times of the year, purely and simply because of the range of activities that are available. For example, you would not expect the Italian climate to be able to play host to excellent skiing in winter and yet cause vegetation fires because of the heat in the summer. The following information should help you to decide what clothes to take and what time of year you want to go!

The geography of the country plays a massive part in the Italian climate. The north is a lot cooler than the south as a result of the altitude being higher and also the distance from the equator. There are mountains in the north of the country and so the temperature is warm rather than hot in summer and can be incredibly cold in winter. Some areas of North Italy have really heavy snows during the early months of the year. Conversely, as the southern tip of Italy is in the Mediterranean Sea, it is only a short distance away from the equator itself, which obviously sends the temperature soaring. It is also a lot dryer so this is the area to go to if you want to enjoy the sun!

In terms of the clothing you might need for the Italian climate, you will only need light summer clothes. Any more than that and you would overheat! In the winter it is a little different though. If you are in the southern areas then you will probably again only need light clothing but a little further up and you will definitely need warmer clothes. This especially applies if you wish to ski! If you time it just right, you can get an Italian climate that you are comfortable with and enjoy so do a little research before booking your travel arrangements!
